since pastor young doesn't have LL, i'll play messenger:

jane says: "...the absolute earliest i can arrive is sometime in the afternoon of the 25th. if i can't get early arrival i might have to change that to the 27th."

danny said he'll be around after the 7th

as for me, i never left.

whew-- sorry i've been mia

finished up YTI (three week theology camp at emory), then flew home to houston and did our old church camp for the past five days. there was definitely some culture shock between the two.

but i'll be in atlanta after tuesday night.

and for church partnerships, we'd need to see what cca is thinking. since pastor young's church is a natural alliance, and then there's the other churches alot of people attend. i'm just curious how it would work.

also how fully can one participate in both ACF and a local church? that's a question i'll personally have to explore this fall as we try to do more with trinity vineyard.

people are involved in varying degrees with their churches, but looking back at last year, i'd say that people in acf are generally more involved with acf than with their churches. it naturally happens that way, since you live, study, eat and acf with these people versus sundays and/or occasional church events.

so iv groups are "para-church" organizations, right? i don't think that that means that campus fellowships automatically take a backseat to churches. i think one of the strengths of acf is that people feel free to be more interactive than they likely typically would be in church about discussing topics, pitching ideas of what acf can do, etc.

especially after reading through TIR (i'm not done yet), i feel like acf has the ability to be more community-like in the sense that shane claiborne talks about than we sometimes find in our churches that are larger and, at times, less personal.

in reference to one of danny's questions, i've found it very difficult to be involved fully (time-wise and personal investment) in both church and its fellowship and in acf. i wish that weren't so. i wish that the intersecting of the two would allow for synergy rather than competition or feeling divided between the two. another thing to think about for this coming year...

this is where a specific mission statement for acf could be useful. but generally i would say that acf's purpose is twofold. 1) it should be to evangelize to the students on campus and 2) simply a space for christian students at emory to live out their christianity at emory.

i believe that christians should be able to grow in their faith anywhere and everywhere but i find that a church setting is where Jesus call us to repair, rebuild, and also apply our christian beliefs and values to all age groups. we should all be taught from pastors, we should all eventually be teaching (maybe not specifically a classroom setting), and we should be able to interact with our age group. i believe only the church can offer fully all these things.

i see acf (small groups and large group) as an "extracurricular" christian group. more specifically a place where we can apply our christian beliefs. we evangelize, we help the poor, and do stuff that shane wrote about

now with all this being said, i don't want to take away from acf at all. especially as leaders of the group and a group serving God, we should do put forth our best effort and commitment into leading this group successfully.

ah sorry i don't want to cut this short but i gtg :[ i thought this comment wouldn't be so long. i'll finish later. bye guys!
